Abisko Socks (English)

€3.00

Abisko Socks are a simple and basic staple to have among your sock collection. They are warm and fast to knit, so that if you suddenly find yourself in need of a new pair of wooly socks, this pattern will guarantee a no-hassle speedy knit to get your feet warm. These socks are also practical - they function great as slippers (crucial for cold floors in old Nordic homes) - but they are just thin enough and not too chunky to fit into outdoor boots. The techniques used here are very common for sock construction. I personally have been knitting these socks for years and years, without fail, this pattern can be easily memorized.

Each sock is worked individually from the top to the bottom. The top is worked in wide ribbing, then stockinette is briefly worked. The gusset is then shaped through slip sts and short rows- Then the sock is continued in the round in stockinette until the toes are shaped and grafted.  This way of working is great for checking foot length as you work.

The amount of yarn required is perfect for women’s shoe size 38-39 (7-9 US) or smaller. There is just enough yarn to make one size larger.  Or else use one more 50 g skein to work larger sizes, for example a man’s sock size (the pattern is unisex). More yarn may also be needed if you choose to make the upper sock ribbing longer.
